Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: It's my birthday on January 16, so it's time for everyone to leave a comment — and for all of my friends to buy me drinks. I'll be doing something that involves a bar and drinks in NYC on January 13. I figure I should reschedule my birthday like presidents do for maximum convenience. If they can do it, I can too! And if we're not doing a bar, we'll do a hookah bar instead. Likely venues include:Horus Cafe; 93 Ave. BDive Bar; 732 Amsterdam Ave. If anyone who reads this blog is in NYC, you're invited as well. Just…

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: One thing I've noticed in my PPC adventures is that Google AdWords is anal-retentive when it comes to using drug trademarks in the legal space. This probably isn't the only area where trademarks become an issue (The Apple trademark seems to be another one), but drugs are where I've noticed it most. Accutane is a drug that is designed to cure extremely bad cases of Acne. Unfortunately, if you litigate on it, Google makes it impossible to use the trademark in your ads unless you're also a pharmacy. This is problematic, and it's an area Google hasn't addressed in their…

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: Stealing is wrong; but some people just don't seem to get it when it comes to intellectual property. Some of my posts take a few hours to write. It's just plain annoying when people steal my work. I'm sure that you feel the same way. Now, normally, I don't call out spammers — but since this fine individual also decided to "syndicate" both Matt Cutts (spam assassin extraordinaire) and SEO Black Hat (spammer extraordinaire), I will document exactly what he is doing, and how to stop it. (Yes, someone is stupid enough to steal content from Matt! — but he…

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: I logged in to Gmail earlier this past December 2006 — only to find that my localization setting was set to Chinese. It took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to get it back to English, mostly because I don't read Chinese! I assumed it was just a fluke. Maybe my cat walked on the keyboard? My password wasn't particularly strong, but based on what happened, I doubt it has to do with that. The data is just plain missing. But then I noticed something else …Gmail appears to have eaten 7 days of my email! Some of it…

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: Everyone is releasing their web stats for 2006. What the heck — I will too. What you have to notice, though, is that everyone who is getting lots of traffic has a few posts that sound like this:"The Top 10 reasons … ""5 Ways To … "Hrmm … I see a trend. But do you see it, Watson? This is something, in fact, I said in "8 ways To Help You Get To Digg's Front Page." People like lists! Here is the proof that Digg.com can drive major traffic — it, in fact, is my top referrer:Digg.com - 43%Direct - 19%Google.com…

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: And so do you. Miss Dewey is hot, she's viral, and she's … in softcore. Danny blogged about this viral experiment from Microsoft here. Valleywag documented Janina Gavankar's "interesting" past appearances over here (not work safe). I posit that Microsoft was entirely aware of Miss Dewey's naked past.Yes, nobody has really discussed it, but Microsoft must have known this. Would anyone suggest otherwise? Blue screens — yes. Clueless — no. Needless to say, such a subtle sexual undertone gave "Miss Dewey" increased viral appeal. Thousands of undersexed nerds all over the planet, I'm sure, were passing around instant…

A little while ago I reported that DMOZ had risen up from the ashes. But DMOZ was still hiccuping and not 100% back to normal.
It appears that over the Christmas holiday the rest of the issues were solved, and they report:
"Notice: Editing is Back!! Login now for more information - Dec. 18, 2006"
Some guy, "Irmaar" created an image to celebrate.

Archived; click post to view. Excerpt: Have you been a good Christian this year? No? So let's resolve to be better next year! Many of you have heard about Christian web hosting. But have you ever heard about Christian SEO?This may come as a surprise — but even Google answers to a higher power. That power is The Lord. For some of you it's Jesus, for some of you its Jehovah, and for others, its Allah. No matter, you're all going straight to Supplemental Hell except for the Christians! So now that that's settled, what do you do to practice wholesome Christian SEO? There are 4…
